An IT Administrator is responsible for managing and maintaining an organization’s IT infrastructure, ensuring systems run smoothly, securely, and efficiently. They handle servers, networks, user accounts, and software installations, while also troubleshooting technical issues.


Key Tasks & Responsibilities

  1. System Administration
    • Install, configure, and maintain operating systems (Windows, Linux, etc.).
    • Manage servers, storage, and virtualization platforms.
  2. Network Management
    • Configure and monitor LAN/WAN, firewalls, and VPNs.
    • Ensure network security and performance.
  3. User & Access Management
    • Create and manage user accounts and permissions.
    • Implement identity and access control policies.
  4. Security
    • Apply patches and updates.
    • Monitor for vulnerabilities and respond to security incidents.
  5. Backup & Recovery
    • Implement and test backup strategies.
    • Ensure disaster recovery plans are in place.
  6. Troubleshooting
    • Diagnose and resolve hardware/software issues.
    • Provide technical support to end-users.
  7. Documentation
    • Maintain system configurations and network diagrams.
    • Prepare reports on system performance and incidents.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
    • (Some roles accept Associate degree or equivalent experience.)
  • Certifications (Highly Recommended):
    • CompTIA Network+ or Security+
    • Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Administration
    • Cisco CCNA (for networking)
    • ITIL Foundation (for IT service management)

Experience

  • Entry-Level: 1–2 years in IT support or system administration.
  • Mid-Level: 3–5 years in IT infrastructure management.
  • Senior-Level: 5+ years with advanced skills in networking, security, and cloud platforms.
